I am doing a study for summer school, and I need to know what kind of things kill people for suicide, I tried looking it up on google but I need better answers like so and so 100MG tablets.
The average 75 kilogram person requires a dose of 35 grams of Aspirin for potential lethality.
Since most tablets contain between 100 and 500 mg, the average potentially lethal dose is about 120 tablets.
Opiates such as Oxycontin or Darvocet are much better for that, however.
A person who wants to commit suicide quickly and painlessly should get in a bathtub to make it easier to clean up.
The most painless and quick ways to die often involve relaxation of the bowels.
The most common means for men is by pistol.
However, this is expensive, and depends on the budget.
The most common means for females is overdose on pills. Usually they are ill chosen, because the person cannot tell in advance when they will desire death.
Since the urge to suicide is intermittent, people are more likely to commit suicide if the have prepared in advance for when the urge hits them.
For instance, they might prepare by obtaining a prescription for an opiate, such as Oxycontin or Darvocet, or by purchasing and loading a gun, and a lock box and ammunition for it.
Leaping off cliffs or buildings has much more drama to it, but most of those who commit suicide do so privately.
Also, hanging by the neck is usually quick, but hardly painless. It requires a length of rope, a bucket or stool, knowledge of how to tie a noose, and a rafter from which to hang the rope.
Often, the actual act of planning the suicide deters those who consider it.
Perhaps one day, suicide of the aged or otherwise dependent will be encouraged by society, internationally, for pragmatic reasons, such as it is in the Netherlands. The changing paradigms toward it fascinate me.
However, that is fodder for another question.
