Hunting for a Graphics Tablet. Help!?

Hey. I’m on the hunt for a good graphics tablet (and, preferably, one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to afford). The thing is, I know what I want in it (basically). The tricky part is finding it. …and.. I don’t quite know where to go to start looking for what I want, nor any brand names to look into.

Here’s my outline.

I don’t want it to be table-top huge, nor as small as a 4×6 inch. Just, moderately, comfortably sized.

I want it to have the ability to connect with my pc but it doesn’t NEED that connection to function.

It can be used all on its own when I’m away from the pc, but connect to it when I want to transfer the image from the g.t. to my pc to put online or …whatever. (Or if it has pc / internet abilities, that’d work too, though I already have 1 pc with internet ability. Another, I think, might just be a bit of overkill.)

Write / see on screen like this http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Bh2DkmxXVD-85M:http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8395/tabletcuwd1.jpg
or

And you can see on the g.t. screen what you’re touching or drawing (not one of those where you have the g.t. on your lap and are drawing on there, but have to look to the computer screen to actually see the image.)

Hm… that’s about it for the basics.
If anyone can help me out here, or at least help to fine tune my search parameters, I’d seriously appreciate it!

Please and thanks in advance!

  1. I have 2 of the Wacom Brand (I am a graphic designer) and the interns in the advertising agency where I work who are also in school use this brand as well. They make various sizes.

I like this company as they have live people that answer phone and care about their product.

  2. The first link is a tablet PC. The second is similar to wacom’s Cintiq, but both are at least $1000, more likely near $2000 – $4000.

If you’re in the UK, Trust sell very affordable graphics tablets, but not ones that work away from the PC.
If not, the Genius have a range of decently prices tablets.
Adesso, the manufacturer of the tablet in the second link, have a graphics tablet range that are pretty affordable. Their digital notepad sounds similar to what you want – http://www.adesso.com/products_detail.asp?productid=370
and also Genius has a few digital notepads.
