I sort of like the Kindle

I compare the Kindle to books, audiobooks, and my old ebook reader, the Rocket Book.

  1. I love my second gen kindle. I read as much as I can

  2. I travel a lot so I used my first generation KIndle even though I preferred reading books. After about a year I reached the point where I would rather read on a Kindle. I like being able to increase the size of the print, leavean electronic book mark that doesn’t get lost and carry 100 books insted of two. Has any one else had this experience ?

  3. you are really pretty

  4. thanx so much

  5. I like how you said the Kindle has a gray background like the Rocketbook, yet when you held up the Rocketbook it is a green screen.

  6. That Archos Jukebox 6000 was released 3 years before the ipod.

Today, Archos makes products that are much better then ipods.

  7. Are you Single? I like you, I like you a lot!

  8. charming and informative annalthouse…I read an interesting polemic with satire on Kindle, “Justifiable Homicide”..serious, funny, entertaining..author has captivating style.

  9. Pretty good review. I think I will stick with paper books for awhile. Kindle seems like a good ideal but maybe Kindle 2.0 will fix a lot of issues I have read about.

  10. I don’t know if kindle will catch on, but either it or something like it will, in time.

Old fashioned books won’t go away completely, but they will mostly — for better or for worse. Books are beautiful things, but they are doomed because they are “inefficient.”

  11. I really want to get a kindle but for some reason I just like paper books so much better. Maybe I sound crazy but for me a physical book is more special to me than an electronic book, basically for all the reasons you said. I feel like there is some sort of personal feeling put into a book that you can physically hold.

  12. I do not have one yet but sometime i may

  13. This was an awesome take on why bookreading and audio listening give us a superior experience, thank you for this. Somehow I felt connected to you as if we were both drinking a cup of tea together, weird, because I don’t drink tea!!

  14. Very insightful review… as ebook readers go, I hear that the Kindle is the best – but I will wait for Kindle 2.0.

  15. Whoa, Ann. The Kindle is on it’s way by DHL, and it’s only Februar–2 months since I ordered. As I was perusing Kindle books on Amazon, I saw The Dive from Clausen’s Pier, by Ann Packer. It’s set in Madison, WI (is there really a Clausen’s Pier?), and she moves to New York. Hmm. Wondering if you’ve read it. I will look forward to perhaps another update about what you are reading. Enjoy your blogs. Ciao. CD1

  16. Hi Ann:Your blogs are fun.I ordered a Kindle, thanks to you and another poster,Bill, and now I sit and wait.Six months, some say:I am waiting for the lovely Amazon confirmatory email. I know what you mean about the black&gray screen, but others say that, not only does it save battery over a white and perhaps lighted background, but it also is easier on the eyes. I dig Madison, WI (I live in Champaign, IL), too. Thanks for a great vlog. You’re very easy on the eyes, and informed, and fun.

  17. mucho cool!

  18. Thanks Ms.Althouse, A very real and human review of a new piece of technology. I used it as a reference in a paper I wrote for class.

  19. Nice commentary. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
