Buying the Wacom Bamboo Fun as a X-Mas gift for a Mac Guru. What are some of the pros & cons of this tablet?

I hear this is a good device for people in design and graphics. My BF is in urban planning and frequently uses Google Sketch. Can this serve have other purposes (music controls, navigation, etc)?

BTW: Please speak in non-techy language, I’m not that computer savvy. Thanks!

  1. No cons that I know of. As long as you have the OS X drivers for it you should be fine.

Yes to the 2nd part of your question

    Enjoy.

  2. A graphic tablet like the Bamboo is just like a mouse, except that it also reads how hard the pen is pressed (only certain programs use that feature, like Photoshop). You can use it with any pretty much any software. The only negative I’d mention is that the Bamboo is not that big. If your BF is using it in a professional capacity, he’d probably be better off with one of the larger tablets from Wacom. These are much more expensive, though. Ask him if he’d like it, or at least include a gift receipt.
