A video review of the new Sony Reader Touch Edition PRS-600 ebook reader with comparison to Sony PRS-505 and Amazon Kindle DX. Read our full review at: www.mobiletechreview.com
This one looks cool too, what would you say, Lisa? This one or the Daily Edition, and why?
I had this one but had to return to store for a Nook because the screen is very glare. I was interested with ebook readers and my first buy was a Nook. The Nook was very easy to read with almost no glare/reflection in the screen. But I wanted the PRS because it has a stylus and I see it a plus when I can write notes to the book Im reading. I returned the Nook and get the PRS-600. Instantly I noticed the the glare very bad. I forced myself to like it but using it is a pain to my eyes. I hate it.
@MobileTechReview Use Calibre to manage your library. Its free and open source and works like a charm! You can edit all ebooks information ( name, tags, author…)
Great video. Thanks for the info.
Hi! Can you also highlight and take notes on a PDF file? Can you synchronize the reader with your PC to download files from your computer? Does it only work with the books you purchased online? I would really appreciate you’re reply. Thanks so much!
DIGITAL AVATARS MAKE LIFE SIMPLE CREATING THEM SHOULDN’T BE HARD
@IvanIV05 Yes, trying to avoid a glare would get very annoying after a while. I’ll have to check out the PRS-300 also. Thanks again.
@glv456 I find a reflection of touchscreen a bit annoying, you have to work on the proper angle to have it gone. PRS-300 has much better screen, even if it is smaller. If you can, try to play with both in a shop, I much prefer PRS-300.
Thanks for this thorough review. I was interested in purchasing a Kindle 3 until I found out it wasn’t compatible with the downloadable ebooks from my local library (which I prefer over buying). This reader looks like it’ll work perfectly for me! I especially like the note taking and the tapping on a word for the dictionary. Thanks again.
I’m looking to replace my current paperback library with ebooks but obviously they are all over the place in terms of file types. Usually PDF and LIT format. What file types apart from PDF can the Sony Reader support and Can they be transfered via usb straight from your computer. Or do you have to buy the books from the sony store?
I dont want to have to buy some 400 books all over again. Thats a small fortune. And thats not even including the academic books.
Hi, I just received my reader this morning. I didn’t buy any wall charger, but my Samsung mp3 player has the same USB/charger port as the reader’s USB. Can I use my mp3 player’s wall charger to charge or I’d better not? Thank you!
nicely done – went out and bought after watching this – the note taking ability is important to me …. thank you
what’s the name of that red e-reader ?
@AstronomyGuru1 you can use anti glare
I plan to buy e-book reader, thanks to your review PRS 600 is otw
)
yaehhh, just got mine today!!
@MobileTechReview Okay. Good to know it’ll save me some time. Thanks!!
@zSuperVixen The naming for PDF files are taken from the file itself. You may not be able to rename it.
Hey Lisa. I just bought one of these and its great. :] But I’m trying to rename pdf files in the reader library and am having issues. lol. Do you know how to? Thanks for your time!
I really need a device such as this but there is one thing I need to be absolutely certain on before I make a purchase. I have around 50+ books in PDF format sitting on my computer. Will it be a simple transfer from my PC to the reader? Would that prove to be a difficult task or even possible at all?
@sooykaradajian Nope, its e-ink tech. So no color.
I was going to get a kindle, but I’ve decided on the Sony instead for various reasons. Is the Sony a resistive touch screen? The only thing I’m on the fence about is the glare, I like a touchscreen but I don’t like glare. I can see your reflection in it, can’t imagine how it is outdoors.
I <3 Lisa. :]
I’m gonna buy this ereader. Took me a month to decide but I finally know what I want thanks to you!
Danke!
