Apple iPad eReader iBooks Demo vs. jetBook

After the first day of receiving the Apple iPad i decided to test out how it would work as an eReader with all the hype around it. Unfortunately, the outcome did not match the predictions. There is a lot of glare, and after about 15 minutes of reading your eyes WILL get tired. Here’s my take on the review and i threw in our Ectaco jetBook in the mix as a comparison to outdoor reading in the end. 1. “You can bookmark it, even unbookmark it.” :D

  2. I hate how you can’t see anything in the sun with the iPad. They REALLY need to fix that :(

  3. @rubixGod96 Please see 1:08 in the video. The brightness is on the standard, above average, out-of-box setting to not drain the battery or burn your retinas :-)

  4. The brightness was all the way down

  5. Thanks for the side-by-side, ECTACO. It’s hard to imagine the same problem with the iPad wouldn’t also show up near a sunny window or a brightly lit room. Reading is best left to devices designed for the purpose. The jetBook looks intriguing.

  6. WTF? iPad is like hanging with a Plazma TV..

  7. @dswellhauser Thats a really good question for those who have a lot of books. Each individual book will have it’s own space on the bookshelf, or you can use a “List” view option where it will show the books as a list and you can type to search by book name.

  8. The bookshelves is cute if you only have a few books but if you have a large library that would be a real pain. What are the search and tagging features of the ereader homepage?

  9. I read outside all the time, sometimes on our porch or take a walk in the woods and find a nice spot to read. I’ve read on long hikes, too. It looks like iPad good for night reading only…

  10. @theknightbg maybe the reading visibility on the ipad might have been better if i was in a public restroom :-)

  11. Are you in a public restroom? ;)
